Friday the 13th: Is the Horror Saga Making a Comeback After Halloween and The Exorcist?

After the  Halloween  trilogy and  : Devotion , Blumhouse is interested in another saga,  Friday the 13th .

In Hollywood, a franchise that works and a franchise that will never really die.  Evil Dead ,   , Scream , the list goes on. In 2018, almost ten years after ’s two films, the Halloween saga was resurrected by director  David Gordon Green . He is also preparing to bring a new franchise to life,  The Exorcist , with a film called The Exorcist: Devotion  (which was revealed in images) . Behind these two attempts, we also find a company, , founded and managed by Jason Blum .

A heavyweight in horror cinema, Blumhouse is notably behind the  , Insidious and  American Nightmare franchises . Blumhouse also produced Us and Get Out by , several films by and the   phenomenon in 2022. FRIDAY 2.0

Originally, Friday the 13th was a slasher directed by released in 1980, inspired by the success of Halloween  two years earlier. The consequences quickly followed, until the overdose. Friday the 13th , the best bad slasher saga, is now made up of twelve films, the last of which, a remake of the original, was released in 2009. If the reboot of the saga has already been mentioned, the arrival of Blumhouse in discussions could move the process forward . According to Ryan Turek, one of the Blumhouse producers interviewed by the media Inverse , Jason Blum would be interested in  Friday the 13th  :

“Jason Blum and I agree that we’d like to take on Friday the 13th. I’d really like to go back to basics. You don’t need a lot of ingredients to make a Friday the 13th movie. It takes camp. vacation, campers, and his mask. I’ve already said that Halloween is the ultimate slasher in my opinion. It’s my favorite slasher. But I can only bow to Friday the 13th as a franchise. I love everything about this franchise.”

If success is achieved for  The Exorcist: Devotion , in cinemas on October 11, 2023 , we can totally imagine the company embarking on the revival of a new franchise. As Ryan Turek noted, it doesn’t take much to make a Friday the 13th movie successful , which fits well with Blumhouse’s strategy of producing low-budget horror films . David Gordon Green could even be assigned to direct a new trilogy, but as of yet, nothing is official.
