As he looked through his lens, the eagle descended to the ground, talons ready to hunt. This eagle is incredible.
Photographer Doug Gemmell found himself in the right place at the right time to witness an impressive display of skill by an eagle.
As he peered through his lens, the eagle descended to the ground, talons ready to hunt. Although this is a young eagle that has not yet developed its white head feathers, its hunting prowess is visible.
Doug Gemmell was following the scene, but the eagle’s prey that day was not typical of his species. Bald eagles generally feed on fish. But the bird was descending into a parking lot. The photographer didn’t know what the bird of prey had caught. Yet his curiosity drove him to continue taking photos.
Later, examining the photos, Doug Gemmell discovered the truth about the bald eagle’s feast. A delicious slice of pepperoni pizza was caught in its talons.
The photographer was amazed to see the pizza in the bird’s talons. ” it’s not something you see every day, that’s for sure ” said Doug Gemmell.
We don’t know if the eagle ate the pizza, but this moment captured by Gemmell’s camera is further evidence of the sometimes surprising acts of wildlife.
But thanks to his perseverance, the photographer managed to capture this unique and rewarding moment, which shows this eagle’s ability to find food in the most unexpected places.
The eagles’ hunting techniques are astonishing
Hunting methods for eagles go beyond the species itself. Each eagle has its own hunting preferences.
In general, eagles are larger than most diurnal birds of prey, with the exception of vultures and harpy eagles. For this reason, an eagle can therefore not hunt like a falcon, as its wingspan and weight are greater and do not allow it to be as agile in flight.
