ATTENTION, SPOILERS !
IS HOUSE OF THE DRAGON SEASON 2 CONFIRMED?
The success was so huge and immediate that a season 2 was officially ordered just five days after the first episode aired.
It was Francesca Orsi, vice-president of HBO Programming, who announced it:
“We are beyond proud of what the entire House of the Dragon team has accomplished with Season 1. Our phenomenal cast and crew took on a huge challenge and exceeded all expectations, delivering a series that has already established itself as a must-see program . Huge thanks to George [RR Martin], Ryan [Condal], and Miguel [Sapochnik] for leading this journey. We couldn’t be more excited to continue bringing this saga to life epic of House Targaryen with a season 2.”
WHAT WILL HOUSE OF THE DRAGON SEASON 2 BE ABOUT?
If the Internet was broken every week after the broadcast of a new episode, season 2 should fuel fan conversations even more. The conclusion of season 1, which saw young Lucerys Velaryon murdered by his uncle Aemond and his massive dragon Vhagar, created a schism within House Targaryen. House of the Dragon season 2 will undoubtedly deal with the aftermath .
Nothing is going well with the Targaryens, and the tensions of the time turn into open conflict where anything goes . Two camps oppose each other, the Greens support Aegon II to be the new king, while the Blacks want to put Rhaenyra on the throne.
And the title of the first episode would have leaked. Redanian Intelligence announced that it would be called A Son for a Son . A title that makes sense for readers of the work and which confirms our expectations: the long-awaited Dance of Dragons is arriving.
The Dance of Dragons is the name given to the war between the Greens and the Blacks for the throne of Westeros. After the bloody and dramatic death of Lucerys, we can expect a particularly violent start to the season. Aemond is in danger: Rhaenyra’s camp will want his head on a pike… or in the flames of their dragons.
- Explanations House of the Dragon: what is the Dance of the Dragons?
As for the events to expect from this second season, we can particularly hope for the return of Laenor, son of Rhaenys Targaryen and Corlys Velarion presumed dead by his family, but in reality very much alive ; he had fled to other countries with his lover in episode 7 of the first season. Did he get lost near the Wall? Footage from filming confirmed the presence of the northern ice wall of Westeros. Towards a return of the White Walkers?
Above all, we can expect the arrival of new characters, new houses… and a new and uncomfortable dragon. In the last episode of the first season, Daemon awakened a particularly strong dragon. And according to some fans of the Game of Thrones universe , this fire lizard would be none other than Vermithor, the second largest dragon of the time after Vhagar. A major ally for Black people, who should reveal himself in this undoubtedly epic second season.
Interviewed by Variety at the start of the year, Sarah Hess, the screenwriter, assured that fans “would not be disappointed”. She also confirmed the presence of “Blood” and “Cheese”, two characters who announce the arrival of a dramatic event that readers already know. Viewers, hold on tight, one episode in particular is likely to get people talking.
WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE SEASON 2 CAST?
Many actors and actresses were changed during season 1. The series cleverly used time jumps to allow everyone to understand the issues on both sides. Now well established, the narration should calm down.
All the actors from the second part of season 1 should continue to play in the sequel to House of the Dragon (that is, if their character is still alive).
So, we should review:
- Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower)
- Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen)
- Matt Smith (Prince Daemon Targaryen)
- Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon)
- Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen)
- Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon II Targaryen)
- Ewan Mitchell (Aemond Targaryen)
- Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower)
Milly Alcock (young Rhaenyra Targaryen) and Emily Carey (young Alicent Hightower) could reprise their roles in flashbacks.
Four new characters were announced in season 2:
- Healer and witch Alys River, played by Gayle Rankin , is expected to play an important role for the Greens
- Ser Gwayne Hightower, son of Otto Hightower (and therefore the brother of Queen Alicen) will be played by Freddie Fox
- Alyn of Hull, great sea warrior, will join the Velaryon and will be played by Abubakar Salim
- Ser Simon Fort, Larys’ great-uncle (but yes, you know, the foot fetishist) will be played by Simon Russell Beale
It is obvious that many other new characters should swell the ranks of the popular HBO series such as Daeron Targaryen, the fourth son of Viserys and Alicent. He was absent from season 1, but there is a good chance that we will discover him in the sequel.
We can also expect to see more of the other families of Westeros with for example Cregan Stark, the head of House Stark or Jeyne Arryn, the leader of House Arryn.
WHERE IS THE FILMING OF THE SERIES GOING?
Several images have leaked and proved that season 2 has indeed started filming. Production continues despite the writers’ strike, and the HBO series should not suffer, although we do not know if filming is currently continuing.
It’s difficult to know where all this is, but we can expect increasing communication from HBO in the months to come.
WHERE CAN YOU SEE THE HOUSE OF THE DRAGON TRAILER ?
There is currently no trailer for House of the Dragon season 2 . As soon as it is posted online, we will add it to this article.
WHEN WILL HOUSE OF THE DRAGON SEASON 2 BE RELEASED?
Filming for season 2 of House of the Dragon began in 2023. The previous season having been released more than a year after filming began, we should not expect the continuation of the series before 2024 .
