Marvel: With writers and directors ousted, Disney+'s Daredevil series is starting from scratch.

Back to square one for  . The writers and directors of the Marvel series   on  Disney+  have been thanked.

Before the Marvel series on Disney+ , it was on    (and the ABC channel before it) that the MCU was developing, with series like  Jessica Jones ,  Luke Cage and Daredevil (still the best Marvel series) . Before this series, the Marvel comics vigilante appeared in ’s film  Daredevil  with Ben Affleck released in 2003, still considered one of the worst films. The series led by    was canceled after three seasons, but had no intention of burying “The Man Without Fear” just yet.

After an appearance in the film  then in the series : Lawyer , Charlie Cox’s Daredevil was finally to return in his own series, called Daredevil: Born Again (and sold as very violent) , planned for Phase 5 of the MCU. Filming on Daredevil: Born Again was paused during the writers’ strike, like many other series, but when production was set to resume, Marvel decided to start from scratch .

DAREDEVIL : ZERO AGAIN

The new Daredevil series , described as a “Disney ripoff”  by the producer of the old Netflix series, was completely trashed by . While production was to restart, the media  revealed that decisions that were, to say the least, radical had been taken by Marvel. The article revealed that Kevin Feige and his colleagues had decided to part ways with a large part of the crew after watching the scenes filmed before the strike:

“Less than half of the eighteen episodes were filmed, enough for Marvel executives, including Kevin Feige, to analyze the outtakes and believe the series wasn’t working.”

We therefore had to wait halfway through filming for the Marvel bosses to make a decision. The directors of the remaining episodes were fired, as were the main writers, Chris Ord and Matt Croman.

The writers’ vision apparently did not correspond to the expectations of Marvel executives. If we do not know the exact reasons for this change of direction, the article nevertheless gives a detail: Matt Murdock did not appear in a Daredevil costume before episode 4. If this seems entirely reasonable when we know that eighteen episodes were planned, the article claimed that this did not please Kevin Feige. Marvel now needs to rethink everything.

Certain sequences and even certain episodes already filmed will be kept according to The Hollywood Reporter but new elements will be introduced. The filming could still take a long time. We don’t know more at the moment. The two dismissed writers will remain executive producers of the series and Marvel is currently looking for new writers and directors to relaunch the machine. Daredevil: Born Again was supposed to be released in summer 2024, but the release is expected to be pushed back, possibly until 2025 .
