Netflix has unveiled the trailer for the sixth and final season of The Crown , which will be released in two parts on the platform.
Despite everything we think of Netflix series, there are always exceptions, and The Crown is one of them. After a generally well-received first season, the series became more controversial when it began to discuss more recent events in the life and reign of Elizabeth II. Moreover, Helena Bonham Carter had criticized the series , while she played Princess Margaret in seasons 3 and 4, accusing it of no longer telling the past and of anchoring itself too much in the present.
The more the series progresses, the more it recounts recent and highly commented upon, even controversial, media events. By focusing even more on the character of Diana , the breakdown of her marriage, her famous interview with the BBC, the exciting season 5 of The Crown outlined the drama which will be at the heart of season 6, the death of Diana . The final season of Peter Morgan’s series has been revealed in a very first trailer.
THE QUEEN’S LAST SPEECH
The time to say goodbye has come. Even though the video is short, the tone is set. While the monarchy is going to suffer a huge shock, Elizabeth II is in deep introspection. The trailer also gives a nod to the two other interpreters of the queen, Claire Foy and Olivia Colman, before arriving at Imelda Staunton, the last incarnation of Elizabeth II .
This first trailer tells us that the season will be cut into two parts , Netflix’s new fad. The first part of the series, made up of four episodes, will focus on the relationship of Diana and Dodi Fayed, and their death in 1997. The second part of this sixth season, made up of six episodes, will show the consequences of this tragic accident. These episodes will also tell the romance of William and Kate, played by Ed McVey and Meg Bellamy, who had not yet been introduced in season 5.
Despite a few new actors, this final season will still be carried by Elizabeth Debicki in the role of Princess Diana, Dominic West in that of Prince Charles, Jonathan Pryce still plays the Queen’s husband, Philip, and Olivia Williams once again plays Camilla Parker Bowles.
The first episodes of the series will arrive on November 16, 2023 on Netflix , and the very last episodes of The Crown will be released almost a month later, on December 14, 2023 on the platform.
